Many Humanists would like us to believe we are somehow better than animals, that we have become a higher lifeform.Sadly this is just wishful thinking.
We are animals and driven by the same basic functions and instincts as any other creature.
At heart we are very much pack animals and every pack must have an Alpha and thus we are pretty much defined along leader and led in all things. It's a natural instinct, in any given situation we either take over and lead or we follow.
This can be seen in all aspects of life, be it social or personal. Take sex for instance, there are positions where both partners can be equal but how often are they used? Mostly either the male or female take a dominating role. It's the same in same-sex relationships, one partner takes a dominating role, sometimes swapped but almost always one is in charge. S&M relationships are an extreme example of this instinct in action.
Look at team sports, some person or persons take the lead and the rest of the team follow. We are incapable on a biological level of escaping the leader/led instinct.
Now I can hear the lamentations and gnashing of teeth here, you wonder how can Discordianism exist if we are forced to have leader/led lives?
Simple realy, the idea of "thinking for oneself", standing apart from the herd is a unique and rare skill. basicly you are leading and following YOURSELF, internalising the instinct and creating a pack of one. Maybe this quality is the next step in evolution or perhaps it's an aberation, unknown at this point.
Now where am i going with this?
Discordianism is the internalising of an instinctive, biological function. A form of mental control of something most people just give into without even realising.
Some people have expressed and are trying to organise and spread Discordianism. This is a very dangerous prospect as you are in effect undoing the hard work already achieved by assuming a "leader" role. Actively converting somebody is leading them and in effect trying to turn them into a "follower", that it is justified by saying you are trying to wake them up is imaterial.
To summarise, Discordianism can not be taught, you can not tell a person to wake up or make them wake up. All you can do is provide a person with the tools and the knowledge. lead them to the rivr and let them drink in their own time.
